African Star Suffers Alleged Racist Abuse During Liverpool Win

Premier League champions Liverpool started their campaign with a 4-2 win over AFC Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday night.

The Reds went with the same side that started the Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace last weekend, as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike made their league debuts for the club.

The game got off to a lively start as Mohamed Salah forced Bournemouth's Dusan Petrovic into fine save with a curling effort, while Antoine Semenyo volleyed over the crossbar at the other end minutes later.

There was a short stoppage in the clash around the 30-minute mark after Bournemouth's Semenyo reportedly alerted the referee about an alleged racist remark from the crowd.

Once the game resumed, the Reds got the breakthrough in the 36th minute when Ekitike managed to get ball beyond defender Marcos Senesi before calmly slotting past Petrovic to mark his league debut with a goal.

The Reds carried the momentum into the second half and bagged a second goal when Ekitike turned provider to pick out Cody Gakpo, who skipped past two defenders before drilling the ball into the far corner.

However, Bournemouth pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute when David Brooks broke free down the left flank and did well to pick out the run of Semenyo, who fired past Alisson Becker from close range.

The Cherries pulled themselves level in the 77th minute when Semenyo embarked on a lung-busting run from his own half on the counter before calmly finding the bottom corner with a lovely finish from the edge of the box.

However, the Reds restored their advantage with two minutes left on the clock when the ball dropped kindly for substitute Federico Chiesa, who sent a first-time volley past Petrovic to seal the win on the opening day.

Salah had the final say on the day as the Egyptian forward won the ball high up the pitch before surging into the box and sending a low strike into the far corner to seal the win.
