Result: Everton 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Date: 16 April 2021
Venue: Goodison Park
Tottenham Hotspur lost further ground in the race for a top-four finish after playing to an entertaining 2-2 draw at Everton on Friday evening.
After a slow start, Richarlison should have given the hosts the lead on 23 minutes after being played in by James Rodriguez but the Brazilian was unable to beat Hugo Lloris.
The hosts were made to pay minutes later when Michael Keane knocked Tanguy Ndombele's cross into the path of Harry Kane, who controlled well before volleying into the bottom corner.
Everton were handed lifeline on 30 minutes when the referee pointed to the penalty spot for Sergio Reguilon's foul on Rodriguez, which allowed Gylfi Sigurdsson to convert from 12 yards.
Carlo Ancelotti's men grew stronger after the equaliser and went close to pulling ahead seven minutes before the break but Lloris did well to thwart Rodriguez.
Everton carried that momentum into the second half, which resulted in the second goal on 61 minutes as Sigurdsson turned home Seamus Coleman's cross with a superb first-time finish.
However, Spurs were back on level terms when a mix up between Keane and Mason Holgate allowed Kane to send another powerful volley past Pickford.
Jose Mourinho responded by throwing on Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela for Ndombele and Reguilon as the North London outfit went in search of a winner.
It was an Everton substitute who nearly got the winner on 84 minutes, as Joshua King fired straight Lloris before Richarlison blazed over from the rebound.
In the end, 2-2 was how the encounter finish as Spurs find themselves four points adrift of the top four while Kane hobbled off with a foot injury in time added on.
