Premier League Bargain Buy XI

Premier League Bargain Buy XI

RB: Seamus Coleman – Sligo Rovers to Everton for £60 000 (R1 million)

The latest transfer window saw Premier League clubs spend more than £1 billion on new players, but while some sides paid exorbitant fees for some of their stars, today we bring you a starting line-up made up of players who did not cost their clubs more than £5 million (R85 million).

English giants Manchester United smashed the previous world transfer record of £85.3 million (R1.4 billion) when they bought France midfielder Paul Pogba for £89 million (R1.5 billion) from Serie A side Juventus.

The Red Devils' neighbours, Manchester City, also spent their fair share of cash this season, with their biggest outlay being the £42 million (R706 million) they paid for defender John Stones, formerly of Everton.

However, over the past few seasons, it has been proved that spending big money on a player does not necessarily mean that player will automatically improve the team. In fact, the opposite can sometimes be true.

In the gallery above is a starting XI of players who were bought for less than £5 million over the past three seasons and have gone on to prove they were complete bargain buys in today's day and age.
