According to the Daily Mirror, Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Frenkie de Jong is high on Guardiola's wish list, with it being claimed that City have made young Dutchman their main target after Jorginho opted to join Chelsea in the latest transfer window.
It is believed Guardiola and his scouting team see the 21-year-old as a potential long-term successor for Fernandinho.
However, securing his signature will not be an easy task as Guardiola's former side Barcelona have also been heavily linked with the Netherlands international.
The Blaugrana are understood to be keen to match any offer City make for De Jong, which means the English giants will likely have to break their current transfer record to have a chance of luring him to the Etihad, and it is believed Ajax have valued the player at a hefty £75 million (R 1.33 billion).
