Kalvin Phillips has not endured the best of times at the Etihad Stadium since completing a €49 million (R1 billion) move from Leeds United in July 2022.
The Leeds native has only started six matches under Guardiola to date, and having played such a prominent role at his previous club, the holding midfielder recently completed a loan move to West Ham United in order to get regular game time.
So far, that move has also not gone according to plan, with the Hammers losing three of the four games the England international has played in. The 28-year-old even got sent off in his most recent encounter against Nottingham Forest.

Phillips recently admitted that comments made by the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager about him being overweight was a low point in his career, and the Spaniard has now apologised to the deep-lying midfielder.
"Yeah, I'm sorry," Guardiola said, as per the Daily Mail. "[Apologising] once in eight years is not bad. But I'm so sorry. I apologise to him. I do apologise. I'm so sorry."
Speaking to the same English publication when making his feelings known, Phillips claimed that he only knew how his manager felt after the statements were made but the Catalan native has refuted this sentiment, claiming that he tells everything to his players before addressing the media.
