Earlier this month, rumours emerged suggesting that, after seven years in his native Paris, the 2023/24 campaign will mark the pacey forward's final season at the Parc des Princes.
The France captain's contract with Les Parisien expires in June, and while the record Ligue 1 champions harboured aspirations of keeping their talisman beyond this season, this now seems highly unlikely.
ESPN are now claiming that Los Blancos are in pole position to land the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner's signature as they are expected to complete negotiations over a contract in the near future.
A deal is yet to be officially signed, however, with the Spanish giants said to still need iron out some details.
The 14-time UEFA Champions League winners came close to securing Mbappe's services in 2022, before he ultimately decided to extend his stay at PSG for another two years.
While he was expected to sign a massive deal in Madrid back in 2022, what Los Merengues is offering him now is said to be significantly lower than that 2022 contract, although what is currently being offered is still believed to be significant money.
