With Jose Mourinho recently stripping Paul Pogba of the vice-captaincy at Manchester United, the Frenchman has now insisted he does not need an armband to be a leader in matches.
Reports: Mourinho Took Pogba's Advice In Emphatic Comeback
The Portuguese tactician removed Pogba as vice-captain following the midfielder's public criticism of his tactics two weeks ago, and many believe the Frenchman's latest comments could be seen as yet another jab at his manager.
Having joined up with France for their upcoming games, the 25-year-old was asked if he sees himself captaining his country in the future, and he responded by insisting that not all leaders necessarily wear the armband.
"I've never played in the France team to be captain, being here is already a big thing for me," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"You don't have to be captain in order to speak, a leader is not someone who has the armband.
"As a leader you can talk on the pitch, but I've seen leaders who didn't necessarily talk."
