Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been sacked by Aston Villa following the side's 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Thursday night.
Conte Shoots Down Spurs' Title Ambitions
After the Villans' latest loss in the Premier League, the former Liverpool captain has "left the club with immediate effect".
"Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect," a statement on the club's official website read.
"We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future."
During Villa's display against Fulham, frustrated supporters loudly called for his departure in the stands before the club announced the news in the wake of their sixth league defeat of the campaign.
Positivity and optimism surrounded Gerrard's appointment in November last year following his appointment, after the side showed promise by playing an attractive brand of football aided by new arrivals such as Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne.
After Villa's 14th place finish last season, the English side were expected to improve but instead are lying a place above the relegation zone in the Premier league after 11 games.
