According to The Independent, Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his attacking department, and the man he reportedly saw as best suited for this was Swedish marksman Alexander Isak.
Vaued at €75 million by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old signed for Newcastle United in 2022, and has already scored 35 goals in 62 matches across all competitions for the Geordie side.
The Gunners were believed to be keen on bringing the Solna native's talents to the Emirates Stadium, with it is understood that he possesses the footballing attributes Arteta appreciates.
Arsenal have not been shy to spend big on players they are determined to sign in the recent past, but the same report claims the Magpies are not willing to sell Isak under any circumstances, which has now led the north Londoners to look elsewhere for a striker.
The likes of Benjamin Sesko and Ivan Toney were studied as potential alternatives, but it is now reported that last season's Premier League runners-up are looking to sign a wide forward who can come inside rather than an out-and-out striker.
This has led them to possibly recruiting Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but there seems to be some scepticism around the winger pertaining to his poor injury record.
Arsenal's pursuit of Isak was not helped by a number of the London club's hierarchy being opposed to state-owned teams.
