With Manchester United having confirmed Alexis Sanchez's permanent transfer to Inter Milan on Thursday, how much they had to pay the Chile international to leave has now reportedly been revealed.
The Red Devils brought the former FC Barcelona star to Old Trafford from Arsenal in January 2018, and much was expected from the tenacious forward. However, he failed to live up to the expectations that came with the club's famous No. 7 shirt, and after just one and a half seasons, he joined Inter on loan.
Sanchez, who was one of the highest-earning players in the Premier League at United, was pocketing a reported £560 000 (R12.8 million) a week Old Trafford, and with nearly two years left to run on that contract, the Manchester club was set to pay about £50 million (R1.1 billion) to Sanchez in that time.
However, according to the Daily Mail, by allowing the player to join Inter on a free transfer, the Premier League side was able to negotiate a payout of just £9 million (R207 million), which is a considerable saving.
The lightened wage bill also gives the Red Devils an extra boost for this transfer window, and could prove handy as they look to tie up their transfer targets, with Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho understood to be at the top of the list.
Sanchez will now reportedly earn £130 000 (R2.9 million) a week at the Italian giants as he looks to rediscover his best form.
