Since the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner suffered a season-ending knee injury, the Sky Blues have been in wretched form.

On Wednesday, they endured their seventh defeat in 10 matches across all competitions, losing 2-0 to Juventus.

The result leaves City at risk of an early UEFA Champions League exit while they also languish in fourth place in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Liverpool.

This poor run of form is said to have prompted Guardiola to act decisively in January. According to ESPN, the two main players on his radar are Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes.

City have long admired both players, and with record revenues of £715 million (R16.1 billion) reported in the last financial year and a transfer profit of £139 million (R3.1 billion), Guardiola is ready to invest.

Over the summer, the club's activity was limited to signing Brazilian winger Savinho for €25 million (R469 million) and re-signing Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer.

The report also highlights City's financial flexibility in the market but notes they remain cautious, awaiting the outcome of the 115 financial fair play charges against them.
