Louis Van Gaal Slams Manchester United's Jose Mourinho For Bastian Schweinsteiger Treatment

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has slammed manager Jose Mourinho for the way he treated Bastian Schweinsteiger at Old Trafford.

Reports: Mourinho Wants Midfield Star At Man Utd

The German featured only four times under Mourinho at United, and was even made to train with the reserves just weeks after the Portuguese arrived.

Van Gaal, who brought the midfielder to the club, has admitted that Schweinsteiger was past his peak when he moved to England, but insisted he did not deserve to be frozen out by Mourinho.

"Schweinsteiger was older, of course, but not too old," he told Sport Bild.

"Still, his body was not able to keep up with the high demands of Premier League. Bayern sold him to us as a fit player, but, in reality, physically he had reached the end.

"How Mourinho treated him after me, Schweini did not deserve this. But it also explains how things were with Schweinsteiger.

"It's a shame because he is a player like Luis Enrique, Mark van Bommel or Philipp Lahm, a character always present on the pitch."

Reports: Five Man Utd Stars Keen To Leave

The 33-year-old left the Red Devils in March 2017 for Chicago Fire in the MLS, whom he has represented on 26 occasions so far.
