Portugal international Diogo Jota has tragically died in a car crash alongside his brother while travelling through the north-western Spanish province of Zamora. The incident is believed to have occurred near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria, on the A-52 highway.
According to reports, the vehicle veered off the road before crashing and bursting into flames. The blaze reportedly spread to nearby vegetation, compounding the severity of the accident.
Just days ago, the Reds forward had shared pictures and videos of his 22 June 2025 wedding to his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso. But now, less than a month into their marriage, tragedy has struck.
Despite enduring an injury-hit campaign last season, the Porto-born attacker still managed to lift his first-ever Premier League title with Liverpool. He also played a key role in helping Portugal secure their second UEFA Nations League crown.
Portuguese Football Federation has released a statement.
"We have lost two champions. Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will do everything we can to honour their legacy every day."
Now, however, the football world mourns the loss of a career — and a life — tragically cut short.
