Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson admits the club were wrong to show public support for Luis Suarez during the racism row with Manchester United's Patrice Evra.
Suarez was given an eight-game ban and a £40 000 (R812 000) fine after he was found guilty of racially abusing Evra during a Premier League clash in 2011.
Before the Uruguayan was found guilty, the Reds wore special T-shirts in support of their teammate while warming up for a match against Wigan Athletic.
Nine years later, the current Liverpool skipper admits the Reds got it wrong as they were trying to protect Suarez.
"From a player point of view, our mindset was on Luis and how to protect him, but we didn't really think about Patrice.
"I think that's where we got it wrong from top to bottom. If people want to point me out, then I'll take full responsibility as well as a player. People will say, 'That's a bit late', but I suppose it's better late than never."
