Guillem Balague On His Biggleswade United Project

Guillem Balague On His Biggleswade United Project

Sky Sports correspondent and award-winning author Guillem Balague recently spoke to Soccer Laduma about becoming the director of football at English club Biggleswade United.

Iniesta: Unique Messi Never Stops Surprising

The popular Spanish journalist was named Director of Football at English non-league football team Biggleswade in 2014, which he proudly says is the most fascinating project he has ever taken on.

Balague, who has interviewed some of the biggest names in world football, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson, spoke to Soccer Laduma about his plans at Biggleswade, and how earning his UEFA B licence has helped him adjust.

"I did it (UEFA B licence) to learn more about the game! It's helped me be the Director of Football at Biggleswade United," he said.

"I've coached a few times, but this was not so much about having a managerial career – it was about learning.

"It's helped me to see things differently. So when we choose players or coaches at the club, I've got a different perspective."

New Leader In FIFA Rankings Announced

The Spaniard also believes quality coaching is one of the most important fundamentals in football, but noted that his project at Biggleswade is about more than the beautiful game.

"The secret to any success in football is coaching. That's why Biggleswade United is a coaching club," he continued.

"We want the best possible coaches for our teams. We've got nine teams. I love what we're doing.

"We've got a clear idea of where we are going. We are spending a lot of time of this, and it's the most fascinating thing I've ever done.

"It's not just about football. It's about leading people, it's about learning from them, and it's about working together towards a goal. I'm absolutely loving it."
