After Pep Guardiola lost assistant manager Mikel Arteta to Arsenal earlier in the season, the Manchester City boss is now reportedly eyeing a former Liverpool star to be his new second-in-command.
In December 2019, after three-and-a-half years as Guardiola's assistant at City, Arteta returned to Arsenal where he had been appointed to replace Unai Emery as the club's new head coach.
His role with the reigning Premier League champions is yet to be filled and reports from England now claim that a number of candidates have been shortlisted for the position, including former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso.
