1) Mourinho had an unsuccessful playing career. On the football pitch, he was not particularly gifted and, indeed, not so 'special'. He played with various clubs from 1980-87 but never managed to break through, calling it quits to focus on his coaching diplomas.
2) He started his coaching career as translator to Sir Bobby Robson at Sporting. He then moved with the Englishman to Barcelona and remained at the club under Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman made him his assistant but he was never fully accepted at Camp Nou and people often just referred to him as the 'interpreter'. He speaks five languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French and English.
3) Jose Mourinho is known for winning the loyalty of big players in his squad. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said that he would die for Mourinho.
4) After being banned by UEFA for Chelsea's Champions League quarterfinal match against Bayern Munich in the 2004-05 season, Mourinho reportedly arrived at Stamford Bridge early and hid in the dressing room in order to be able to speak to his players. According to newspapers, he was then wheeled away in a laundry basket so as not to be seen.
5) Mourinho is only one of five coaches to have won the European Cup (Champions League) with two different clubs – Porto and Inter Milan. The others are Ottmar Hitzfeld, Ernst Happel, Jupp Heynckes and Carlo Ancelotti.
