Callum Wilson's last-gasp penalty saw Newcastle United claim a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Tottenham were all over Newcastle in the opening exchanges and in the third minute Giovani Lo Celso curled a free-kick towards the near post. Karl Darlow got across but pushed the ball into Harry Kane's path, who took the shot first time, but Darlow did brilliantly to smother that effort as well before Kane fired the rebound over the bar.
Spurs deservedly broke the deadlock with 25 minutes gone. Harry Kane did brilliantly to get to the byline and fizz the ball across the box with his left foot for Lucas Moura to complete the tap-in at the back post.
That goal gave the hosts even more confidence and Kane almost doubled their lead when he curled one which looked destined for the top right corner but Darlow produced a stunning save once again.
Son Heung-Min then hit the post before Eric Dier headed inches wide in quick succession as Jose Mourinho's side continued to turn the screw. Son hit the post again shortly before half-time with the visitors lucky to go in to the interval trailing by just the single goal.
The Magpies were looking a more solid defensive unit in the second period and it took until the 60th minute for Spurs to have their first decent opportunity since half-time. It was a great cross into the box from Ben Davies and Moura nodded it down for Kane, but his shot on the turn was straight at the Magpies keeper.
Soon after, Lo Celso was given a lot of space just outside the box. He cut onto his right foot before hitting his low shot across goal to the bottom-right corner but Darlow got a strong hand to it.
Erick Lamela, on as a substitute for Moura, then tried to deceive Darlow with a free-kick to his near post from an acute angle on the right but the English shot-stopper kept his concentration and got across quickly to tip the ball over the bar.
Despite not having mustered a single shot on target, the Magpies were awarded a penalty with virtually the last kick of the game after the ball struck Dier's hand from Andy Carroll's header. The responsibility fell to new signing Callum Wilson, who made no mistake from the spot to ensure Newcastle pinched a very fortunate point.
