Paul Pogba, who was named captain, found the back of the net as Manchester United began the Premier League season with a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford.   Pogba was a surprise inclusion in the line-up while he was also handed the captain's armband alongside new signing Fred.
United got off to the perfect start when they awarded a penalty in the second minute when Daniel Amartey handled in the box. Pogba stepped and calmly slotted into the top corner.   The Foxes went close to scoring after 15 minutes but Kelechi Iheanacho dragged his effort just wide of the mark from close range.   David de Gea came to United's rescue in the 28th minute with a superb reflex save to keep out Adrien Silva's powerful effort.   The Foxes, surprisingly, shaded the possession statistics for the rest of the half but they were unable to carve out another chance.   Leicester picked up from where they left off in the first half as the Red Devils looked content to sit back and soak up the pressure.   Jose Mourinho opted for a change after the hour mark as Marcus Rashford made way for last season's top scorer Romelu Lukaku.   Lukaku should have doubled the lead with 14 minutes remaining, but the striker's close range effort was deflected wide by Kasper Schmeichel.   The win was eventually sealed in the 82nd minute when Juan Mata played in Luke Shaw, who recovered from a poor touch before slotting past Schmeichel.   There was a nervy finish to the clash after Jamie Vardy pulled a goal back in the 91st minute, but Mourinho's men managed to see out the closing stages to claim the win.
