English Premier League Result: Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth Date: 17 August 2015 Venue: Anfield Liverpool pulled off a 1-0 victory over a hard-working Bournemouth side in their English Premier League tie at Anfield on Monday night. The Cherries made a promising start to the clash as Tommy Elpick rose high to head home in the fifth minute, but the goal was disallowed due to the centre-back pushing Lovren. The Reds broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Jordan Henderson's cross was steered into the back of the net by Christian Benteke at the far post. The goal was his first for Liverpool and his 50th in English football. The goal was rather dubious as Coutinho was in an offside position and should have been penalised according to the EPL's new offside rules. Four minutes later Brendan Rodgers' charges came close to doubling their lead as Henderson tried his luck with a looping effort from 35 yards, however the shot only grazed the bar. Bournemouth threatened the home side's goal just after the break as Matt Ritchie unleashed a powerful shot on target but Mignolet showed off good hands as he gobbled it up. Ritchie was once again looking threatening on the hour mark when the winger smashed a first-time strike into the post with Mignolet thoroughly beaten. Benteke almost netted his brace in the 90th minute but his bouncing strike came off the bar and the Reds claimed another 1-0 win.
