Result: Huddersfield Town 1-2 Manchester City

Venue: John Smith's Stadium

Manchester City restored their eight-point lead over Manchester United after coming from behind to defeat Huddersfield Town 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Vincent Kompany could have opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute when the Belgian defender rose the highest to meet Kevin De Bruyne's cross but his header missed the target by inches.

David Wagner's charges could not break out of their own half after 20 minutes with City playing a high press game.

David Silva and De Bruyne were combining to good effect after half-an-hour but lacked the precision to get the opening goal.

Sergio Aguero had a chance in the 38th minute after being setup by Silva inside the edge of the box but his snap shot went wide.

Huddersfield took a surprising lad on the stroke of halftime when Nicolas Otamendi scored into his own goal following a corner, 1-0.

Aguero brought Pep Guardiola's troops back in the match two minutes into the second half from the penalty spot after Raheem Sterling was brought down in the area, 1-1.

Leroy Sane almost made it 2-1 to City four minutes before the hour after his strike from a free-kick on the edge of the box rattled against the crossbar.

Guardiola decided to make an alteration to his system with 10 minutes left on the clock, withdrawing defender Kompany in favour of striker Gabriel Jesus.

The move paid off immediately as Jesus had a shot that was saved by goalkeeper Jonas Lossl inside the box but the ball ricocheted off Sterling's legs and sailed into an empty net, 1-.2

City continued to rally for a cushion goal in the last five minutes but had done enough to keep their winning streak going.
