English Premier League

Report: Chelsea 2-0 Everton

Date: 27 August 2017

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Alvaro Morata bagged a goal and an assist to inspire Chelsea to a 2-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Cesc Fabregas returned from suspension and was thrown straight into the starting line-up, while Gary Cahill was still missing.

The Blues dominated proceedings from the onset, but they were unable to make that dominance count and were restricted to shots from distance.

Chelsea's perseverance was eventually rewarded in the 26th minute when Fabregas combined with Morata before firing home with a fine finish with the outside of his foot.

Antonio Conte's charges continued to dominate and they doubled their lead on 40 minutes when Morata headed home Cesar Azpilicueta's impressive cross.

Everton, on the other hand, struggled to carve any real openings at goal as Thibuat Courtois endured a quiet first half.

After a slow start to the second half, Ronald Koeman introduced Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Sandro on the hour-mark, as they looked for a way back into the clash.

The tempo died down quite a bit in the second half, as chances were hard to come by both clubs in the respective final thirds.

Everton carved out their first meaningful opening after 86 minutes when Gylfi Sigurdsson picked out Williams, who headed wide of the upright.

Chelsea nearly added a third goal on the stroke of full-time but Jordan Pickford produced a good save to deny Willian as the score remained 2-0.

Other result:

West Bromwich Albion 1-1 Stoke City
