England International Reveals Truth Behind Horror Season

England International Reveals Truth Behind Horror Season

An England international, who is in the Three Lions' 2018 FIFA World Cup squad, has revealed why he had such a forgettable season with his Premier League club.

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose found himself on the sidelines through most of the 2017/18 campaign, and while many claimed he had fallen out of favour with manager Mauricio Pochettino, there appears to be more to the story.

In a telling interview recently, the 27-year-old revealed exactly what he went through this past season, citing his battle with injury, the loss of his uncle, and his mother being racially abused, which led to him becoming depressed.

"It's no secret that I've been through a testing time at Tottenham this season," he said, according to ESPN.

"It led to me seeing a psychologist and I was diagnosed with depression, which nobody knows about. They are probably going to be really angry reading this, but I've kept it to myself until now.

"It all stemmed from my injury when I was advised I didn't need an operation. I had cortisone and platelet-rich plasma injections trying to be fit for my club. I was getting very angry, very easily. I didn't want to go into football, I didn't want to do my rehab.

"My uncle killed himself in the middle of my rehab and that triggered the depression as well. Off the field, there have been other incidents. Back home, in August, my mum was racially abused in Doncaster. She was very angry and upset about it.

"Then someone came to the house and nearly shot my brother in the face – a gun was fired at my house.

"England has been my salvation and I can't thank the manager and the medical staff enough."

Rose played just 17 matches for Spurs this past season, but will be looking to make his nation proud at Russia 2018.
