Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has revealed how he and former teammate Frank Lampard distracted Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben just before he took a penalty – and missed – in the 2011/12 Champions League final.
Chelsea's 5 Best Signings Ever
In Drogba's new autobiography Commitment, he revealed the techniques he and Lampard used to put Robben off before he missed his crucial penalty, which was awarded in extra-time and would have given the Bavarians a vital lead.
The former Ivory Coast striker and the midfielder reminded the Dutch forward of his Chelsea past and told him goalkeeper Petr Cech would know exactly where he would place his shot as a result.
"Arjen, you're a Chelsea player, you can't do this! Don't do it! Anyway, we'll know where you're going to shoot," Drogba and Lampard told Robben, according to the Ivorian's book.
"We got inside his head, definitely, because his kick was weak – definitely weaker than it would normally have been – and Petr saved it."
Drogba Rules Out Chelsea Return
The Blues went on to win the Champions League for the first time in their history, with many believing it was Drogba who inspired them to the victory.
