Chelsea 'Overtake' Arsenal In Race For £170m-Rated African Star

Chelsea have now reportedly overtaken Arsenal in the race for an African star's signature.

Chelsea have now reportedly usurped Arsenal as the Premier League side in pole position to land a £170 million-rated African star.

According to FootballTransfers.com, the Blues have identified Victor Osimhen as their top target for next season, and will be looking to go all out for the Nigeria talisman.

The 24-year-old was in sublime form last season for Napoli, and has continued that into the new campaign, scoring three goals in his opening three Serie A encounters.

Earlier this month, it was revealed the Gunners had clear intentions of making the Lagos native their marquee acquisition come the end of the 2023/24 campaign, but it now seems their west London rivals have overtaken them as they look to continue their massive spending under their American ownership.

The same report claims that Chelsea could already have a deal in place to sign Osimhen in the next off-season transfer window, hence their decision to sign promising Senegalese attacker Nicolas Jackson for €37 million (R749 million) in July instead of seriously pursuing the Napoli superstar in the past window.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has publicly stated that he will not let go of his star player for anything less than £170 million (R4 billion), but with a contract renewal still nowhere in sight at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for the prolific marksman, that price may decrease in a year's time when he will have 12 months remaining on his deal.
