Richard Hughes came through Arsenal's academy, but spent most of his career with Bournemouth and former Premier League side Portsmouth.
Hughes has now surprisingly revealed that the tense exchange he had with the Red Devils star, who ended up getting sent off for the headbutt in a clash that ended 1-1 at Fratton Park in 2007, was the best moment of his career.
"It was a trivial moment. One of the highlights of my career, but an insignificant encounter for Cristiano Ronaldo," Hughes told Played Up Pompey Three.
"I'm not someone who scored loads of goals, so I have to remember other landmarks.
"Should I ever meet people who don't necessarily remember me playing Premier League football, I can always tell them that one of the game's greats headbutted me.
"Sir Alex Ferguson afterwards said Ronaldo shouldn't get involved with inferior players."
