Bayern Munich's re-elected president Uli Hoeness has advised Bastian Schweinsteiger to make Manchester United pay him until the last day of his current contract.
Reports: African Midfielder Wanted By Mourinho
The former Germany international has had a torrid time at Old Trafford since the arrival of Jose Mourinho this season, having failed to make a single appearance for the club in 2016/17 so far.
Schweinsteiger recently returned to first team training after months of a Mourinho-imposed exile, but the Portuguese tactician is not expected to play him any time soon, which Bayern president Hoeness clearly feels is unfair on the player.
"If I were (Schweinsteiger), I would make the people in Manchester pay until his last day," Hoeness said, as quoted by ESPN.
"That's what this club deserves for what they've done to him. They should be punished."
Many think the former Bavarians captain could make a move to the MLS in the US in the January transfer window, but Hoeness believes otherwise.
"From what I have heard, Basti's on his way out of football. I know him well and I doubt he's still got the fire left in him for one final major challenge," he added.
"After such a brilliant career, a player like him shouldn't see out his career in a place like America. For me, America simply isn't an alternative for a player of his calibre.
"As far as I know, he's committed to a massive farewell game at Bayern. I would do that but then I would retire."
Schweinsteiger won eight Bundesliga titles in 13 years at Bayern Munich, and also guided his former club to UEFA Champions League glory in the 2012/13 campaign.
