Atletico Madrid Are Interested In Signing Romelu Lukaku From Chelsea

Following a stuttering start to his life back at Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku could yet be on the move again.

Chelsea Bag Fourth Straight EPL Victory

According to Super Deporte, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is a massive admirer of Belgium's all-time top goalscorer, and is interested in acquiring his services should the opportunity present itself in the upcoming transfer window.

Having returned to west London after seven years in August 2021, Lukaku is yet to find his best form in a Chelsea jersey, registering just five goals to date in this Premier League campaign.

The 28-year-old has been plagued by injuries and illness throughout the season, which has contributed to his erratic form. However, according to reports in Italy, the former Everton striker is unsatisfied at Stamford Bridge and would like to leave.

In December 2021, Lukaku said in an interview with Sky Italia that he was not happy with the Blues' tactics because they did not suit his strengths.

"Physically, I'm doing great. I'm just not very happy with the situation, but that's normal," he said at the time.

"I think the boss has decided to play a different formation but I have to stick at it and get on with it professionally.

"I'm not happy with the situation but it's my job and I mustn't give up."

Chelsea paid Inter Milan £97.5 million (R1.9 billion) for the forward, and considering the club's current financial state, they will want to recoup at least some of that money.

His German teammate Kai Havertz has stepped up in the meantime, putting on dazzling performances in recent weeks in the false nine position manager Thomas Tuchel has him playing.

With the resurgence of Havertz and Armando Broja out on loan for Southampton, the resolution to Chelsea's attacking problems could be sourced in-house.

From an Atleti perspective, the deal could be possible if Juventus decide to exercise the option to buy Alvaro Morata. With Luis Suarez out of contract at the end of the season and a possible Joao Felix exit also on the cards, there could be funds available for Los Rojiblancos to sign Lukaku.
