How Luis Suarez Ended Up At FC Barcelona?

It's only 12 days until the next El Clasico between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona and the clash will see Luis Suarez being able to make his debut for the Catalan giants. In this first feature about the Uruguayan we are taking a look at how Suarez ended up at Camp Nou.

Suárez started off as a youth player at Nacional in Argentina in 2003 and quickly moved up the ranks at the club before helping them to the Primera División title in the 05/06 season. In 2006 Suarez made the move to the Netherlands where he got signed by Eredivisie side Groningen and a season later got sold to Ajax Amsterdam.

In 2008–09 he was named Ajax Player of the Year. The following year, he was made the club captain, helping Ajax win the KNVB Cup while becoming the league's top scorer with 35 goals in 33 games. In the same season Suarez was named Dutch Footballer of the Year after scoring 49 goals in all competitions.

Internationally Suárez made his senior début for Uruguay on 8 February 2007 in a 3–1 win against Colombia. He was sent off in the eighty-fifth minute after receiving a second yellow card for dissent.

Suarez made a £22.8 million move to English giants Liverpool in January 2011 and a season later help Liverpool lift the League Cup.

In April 2014 he won the PFA Players' Player of the Year award, becoming the first non-European to win the award and the FWA Footballer of the Year.

In the same season Suarez was also the Premier League's top scorer with 31 goals and he won the Premier League Golden Boot, as well as the shared European Golden Shoe with Real Madrid's, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Throughout Suarez's career he has been the source of much controversy. He has bitten three opponents thus far as well as his 2010 World Cup goal-line handball which effectively knocked Ghana out the Quarter-Finals.

He has also been widely accused of and admitted to diving, and was found guilty by the FA of racially abusing Patrice Evra, a decision Suárez still disputes to this day.

In 2014 Suárez signed with the Catalan giants FC Barcelona for a record breaking £75 million fee and is yet to make his official debut for the club due to ban he is currently serving.
