VAR Denies Brazil Twice In Frustrating Copa America Draw

Tite's Brazil were denied by VAR twice in their frustrating 0-0 draw with Venezuela in the 2019 Copa America on Wednesday morning.

After starting the tournament brightly with a 3-0 win over Bolivia in Group A, the Selecao went into their clash with Venezuela confident of another three points.

The first real chance of the match fell to Ajax Amsterdam winger David Neres in the 15th minute, after he was beautifully picked out by FC Barcelona star Arthur.

Neres picked the ball up just outside the opposition area and took it inside the box before releasing an effort that failed to trouble Wuilker Farinez in goal.

Venezuela went close just four minutes later through Salomon Rondon, but the West Bromwich Albion striker was unable to direct his header on goal from just outside the six-yard area.

Brazil thought they scored six minutes before the end of the first half, but Roberto Firmino's goal was immediately called off as the Liverpool man appeared to foul Farinez moments before finding the back of the net.

With the teams having gone into half-time 0-0, substitute Gabriel Jesus was elated in the 60th minute when he appeared to put his country ahead. However, VAR ruled out the Manchester City forward's tap-in as it appeared Firmino was offside in the build-up to the goal.

Brazil continued to push for a goal, with Arthur instrumental in almost every bit of play by the Brazilians. The midfielder kept the ball moving with precision, standing out as the Selecao's most influential player.

There was more heartbreak in the 87th minute, though, when VAR intervened a second time. Philippe Coutinho appeared to have scored the winner for his country with just minutes remaining, but after a lengthy check with the Video Assistant Referee, the goal was ruled out.

Boos rang around the Arena Fonte Nova stadium, especially as it was unclear where the infringement was for Coutinho's seemingly legal goal. The match ended goalless, with Tite's men understandably more disappointed.
