Copa America Report: Brazil v Ecuador 27 June 2021

Result: Brazil 1-1 Ecuador

Date: 27 June 2021

Venue: Estádio Olímpico Pedro Ludovico Teixeira

Brazil finished with an unbeaten record in Group B at the Copa America following a 1-1 draw with Ecuador on Sunday evening.

With qualification to the knockout round already secured, Neymar, Thiago Silva, Fred and Danilo were all dropped to the bench.

Ecuador, who needed to pick up points, were dealt a blow 17 minutes into the first half as Moises Caicedo picked up an injury and was replaced by Angel Mena.

After waves of attack, the defending champions finally got their reward on 36 minutes when Eder Militao headed home Everton's free-kick.

The Ecuadorians were unable to find a way past the Brazilian defence as Alisson enjoyed a quiet opening 45 minutes between the sticks.

However, Allison had to pick the ball out of the net eight minutes after the break when Mena equalised for Ecuador.

Tite responded by throwing on Vinicius Junior and Casemiro for Roberto Firmino and Douglas Luiz for the final 27 minutes of the clash.

However, neither side were able to find a second goal as Brazil finish as group winners while Ecuador secured the final qualifying spot in the group.

Elsewhere, Peru finished second in the group after their goalless draw with Venezuela.
