Antony & Rashford Send Man Utd To League Cup Semis

Antony and Marcus Rashford were among the goals as Manchester United advanced to the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

United coach Erik ten Hag gave a debut to 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, while Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Fred and Anthony Elanga were also recalled.

The Red Devils enjoyed a lot of the ball in the early stages, with Diogo Dalot and Alejandro Garnacho going close to opening the scoring inside the opening ten minutes.

United did get the opening goal just after the 20-minute mark when Antony collected a pass from Fred before finding the top corner with a superb strike from the edge of the box.

Ten Hag was forced to make a change in the 34th minute, with Dalot picking up a knock before Aaron Wan-Bissaka was introduced and he received a cold welcome from the away fans due to his previous links with Crystal Palace.

While Charlton were unable to get their foot on the ball, the hosts nearly bagged a second goal ten minutes before the break when Fred rattled the frame of the goal with a curling free-kick.

The tempo from the home side dropped a bit in the second half and they became a bit sloppy on the ball, which prompted Ten Hag to throw on Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Rashford on the hour mark.

United nearly got the second goal soon after when Scott McTominay sent Garnacho through on goal, but the young Argentine winger's strike was kept out by goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Charlton were starting to cause a couple of problems on the counter as the half drew to a close, with Scott Fraser forcing goalkeeper Tom Heaton into a save on 80 minutes.

Rashford did go on to seal the win in the 90th minute after collecting a pass from Facundo Pellistri before slotting into the bottom corner to send United to the semi-finals.

There was enough time for Rashford to grab a second goal with a lovely left-footed strike after being played in by Casemiro's ball over the top.
