Just three days after missing out on this season's Bundesliga title, Borussia Dortmund have announced their first signing of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Black and Yellows were beaten to the Bundesliga crown by Bayern Munich, who managed to turn a nine-point deficit after games into a two-point lead by the end of the campaign.

However, it seems Dortmund are prepared to rival the Bavarians again next season, having underlined their ambitions by signing Germany left-back Nico Schulz.

The 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract after joining the club from Hoffenheim for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around €25 million (R403 million).

"Borussia Dortmund is a top club whose team plays a football that suits me. I believe that I can help the team with my way of playing. Together we can achieve big goals," Schulz told Dortmund's official website.

BVB sporting director Michael Zorc added: "Nico Schulz is a defender who has improved significantly in the last few years. We will profit from his physical strength, his speed and his extremely dynamic style of playing just as the German national team has profited from this. A player like him is good for any team when you consider his fighting spirit and his desire for success."

Schulz made 37 appearances for Hoffenheim this season, scoring twice and assisting another nine goals. In addition, he has represented Germany six times so far.
