Bundesliga Wrap: Bayern Munich Move Top Without Robert Lewandowski

Bundesliga Wrap: Bayern Munich Move Top Without Robert Lewandowski

Bayern Munich climbed to the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-1 victory over FC Koln on Saturday evening.

Robert Lewandowski missed out for the first time this season, but the rest of the regulars for Bayern featured with top spot in sight.

Bayern took the lead in the first 13 minutes from the penalty spot courtesy of Thomas Muller after a hand used from Marius Wolf off a ball from Serge Gnabry.

Cologne struggled to carve out goal-mouth chances as the first half wore on, and went into the break two goals down after Gnabry finished off a swift counter-attack from Joshua Kimmich.

The home side made three straight changes midway in the second half, with Dominick Drexler, Jan Thielmann and Noah Katterbach sent on in line to overturn their fortunes.

Cologne made a strong finish to the match when Drexler pulled off a goal back in the last eight minutes off a ball from Jan Thielmann, but it was too little too late.

A second half double from Mats Hummels led Borussia Dortmund to a 2-0 victory over Arminia Bielefeld and second-place in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening.

Marco Reus continued in the final entry of the field alongside Jadon Sancho and Julian Brandt, but there was no Erling Braut Halaand who missed out with a knee injury.

Both sides enjoyed a quite opening quarter with chances few and far between, as shots from range became the order of the day much of the first half.

Dortmund hit the breakthrough eight minutes in the second half when Mats Hummels rose to plant a cross from Thomas Meunier into the back of an unguarded net.

Hummels made the points safe with a brace in the last 20 minutes of the match after getting on the end of a corner-kick from Reus for a solid header.

Arminia pushed for a consolation in the remaining minutes courtesy of Sergio Cordova, but the Black and Yellow brigade locked the gates for the win in the end.
