Bundesliga Report: Koln v RB Leipzig 01 June 2020

Result: Koln 2-4 RB Leipzig

Date: 01 June 2020

Venue: RheinEnergieStadion

RB Leipzig reclaimed third spot in the Bundesliga after defeating Koln 4-2 at the RheinEnergieStadion on Monday night.

The hosts went ahead as early as the seventh minute as Jhon Cordoba smashed home from close range after Elvis Rexhbecaj's cannoned off the post.

After the early setback, Leipzig regathered themselves and managed to restore parity in the 20th minute as Angelino's superb cross found Patrik Schick, who nodded home from close range.

Koln were then dealt a blow six minutes later as Cordoba's evening unfortunately came to an end due to an injury. He was replaced by Anthony Modeste.

The turnaround was complete for Leipzig on 38 minutes as Christopher Nkunku latched onto a pass from Laimer before calmly slotting over the advancing Timo Horn.

The wind had seemingly been knocked out of Koln's sails as Leipzig added a third goal five minutes after the halftime break, with Péter Gulácsi's long ball finding Timo Werner, who made no mistake from close range.

Koln did manage to pull another back on 55 minutes through Modeste's superb finish into the far corner after winning possession back in the final.

The home side's joy only lasted two minutes though, as Daniel Olmo restored Leipzig's two-goal advantage with an impressive curling finish of his own for his first-ever Bundesliga goal.

While Leipzig continued to push for more goals as the second half went on, Koln went close to reducing the deficit in the final seven minutes when Modeste was sent through on goal, but the striker fired wide with only Gulácsi to beat.

In the end, 4-2 was how the encounter finished as Leipzig moved up to third spot while Koln are unmoved in 11th position.
