The visitors had top spot in their sights following the international break and started with Josip Brekalo in attack alongside Wout Weghorst. The former almost got the away outfit to a dream start after making space for a shot in the area following a through ball, but he went straight at Zack Steffen. Niko Giebelmann made the visitors rue that chance with the opener on 16 minutes after getting on the end of Oliver Fink's cross to nestle the top corner. Almost an immediate response came from the away side following a threatening ball in the area, but Weghorst couldn't get past Steffen who saved easily. The Wolves however were back on level terms a minute to the half-hour mark as Brekalo skipped past his marker to set-up Weghorst, who applied a composed finish. Wolfsburg were revived following the interval, with Brekalo on the charge earlier on however the home side monitored his every move. This avenue in play marvelled right towards the final quarter as the duo sized up each other up a lot instead with neither defence threatened. Oliver Glasner made the evening's first substitution inside the last 20 minutes, with Felix Klaus coming on for Admir Mehmedi. Klaus threatened the winner for the visitors in the final four minutes, but Pavao Pervan pulled down to deny the forward from close-range. In the end, the two sides settled for a share of the spoils, as Wolfsburg drop their first points on the road this season and miss out on top spot.
