Result: Eintracht Frankfurt 0-2 Mainz
Date: 12 May 2019
Venue: Commerzbank-Arena
Eintracht Frankfurt's top four hopes suffered a set-back following a 2-0 defeat to Mainz in the Bundesliga on Sunday evening.
Following Saturday's Bundesliga action, Frankfurt slipped to sixth place on the leg, one point adrift of the top four.
Mainz, meanwhile, had nothing much to play as they were out of contention for Europe and were well clear of the relegation zone.
Eintracht were dumped out of the Europa League by Chelsea on Thurdsay and were looking to bounce back, but they found it tough to carve out clear-cut openings.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the eight minutes after the break, with Anthony Ujah finding the back of the net for Mainz.
It got better for the away side four mintues later when the Nigerian forward completed his brace to double the lead, with the host left shell-shocked.
The hosts threw on Jonathan de Guzman and Sebastien Haller for the final 30 minutes as they looked to claw their way back in to the clash.
However, Frankfurt weren't able to find a way past the Mainz defence, as the visitors held on for three points which sees them remain in 12th.
For the hosts, they failed to move out of sixth position and now head in to the final round of matches with their top hopes out of their own hands.
