The Manchester City academy graduate has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, and is one of only eight players to have surpassed double figures for both assists and goals in 2018/19, according to 90min.com
The England international supplied Mario Gotze with the opening goal in the 14th minute of BVB's game against Schalke on Saturday, and in doing so, took his overall assists tally to 14 in the Bundesliga – more than any other player in Europe's top five leagues, including Messi, who has 13 LaLiga assists to his name.
According to the Bundesliga's official website, the 14 assists registered by Sancho is the highest number of assists created by an Englishman since Frank Lampard managed the feat in the 2009/10 campaign with Chelsea.
Sancho also became the youngest player ever in Bundesliga history to register as many assists as he has in a single campaign, overtaking Gotze's tally of 11 in the 2010/11 season with Dortmund.
With five games still to be played in Germany's top flight, the teenage sensation is on course to break former Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne's single-season record of 21 assists in a single Bundesliga season (2014/15).
