It is believed Joshua Kimmich was a top target in Barca's transfer window plans under Xavi Hernandez, but with the likely appointment of Hansi Flick, expectations over a mooted move have seemingly grown given their connections.
According to Sport, the 29-year-old is currently in talks with the five-time European champions to discuss personal terms, but while they are believed to be advanced, the midfielder's representatives and the club have now seen negotiations stall.
The Germany international is said to be earning €19.5 million (R390 million) a year before tax in Germany, and with the Blaugrana still in an unstable financial situation, the Catalans will not be able to match his current annual salary.
The Spanish giants will be looking to seek approval from the league to be able to implement the 1:1 rule. It means they will get to spend every euro they bring in, while up until this point they have been forced to implement the 1:4 rule, which meant they had to save four euros for every euro they spent.
Signing Kimmich to such a contract is also not feasible because Robert Lewandowski's current deal will escalate to a €30 million annual salary next season.

Flick has worked with the Rottweil native before at Die Roten and Die Mannschaft, and would seemingly utilise him as a lone holding midfielder as a replacement for Sergio Busquets. However, for the time being, Barca will need to come up with a new offer if they are keen on negotiations to advance to completion.
