Morocco international Achraf Hakimi has been one of BVB's standout players in his debut campaign in Germany's top flight, having signed a two-year deal from Los Blancos in July 2018.
With 28 appearances, three goals and seven assists across all competitions to his name, the 20-year-old has cemented his spot in Lucien Favre's starting XI, but saw his progress being curtailed after suffering a broken metatarsal against Wolfsburg in March.
Hakimi's loan stint with Dortmund expires in June 2020, but the Los Blancos academy graduate admits he would love to return to Spain sooner than that.
"It would be a dream to be back at Madrid as soon as possible," he told Spanish television channel Vamos.
"I'd be lying if I said otherwise. We'll see what happens."
The right-back also gave his opinion on Real's below-par campaign.
"I'm a Madrid fan, and even if I'm not there, I'm always going to follow the club," he added.
"It's been a difficult season for them, but Madrid have everything it takes to bounce back. That's why they're the greatest club in the world. They're in a slump, but I'm confident they'll come back out of it."
The Moroccan then spoke about his development at BVB.
"When Dortmund came in for me, I felt like I could replicate what (Dani) Carvajal did (at Bayer Leverkusen): go out on loan and then come back a more mature player, having had the kind of learning experience that I needed," Hakimi continued.
"I think I made the right decision."
Hakimi was handed his first-team debut at Real during current Los Blancos boss Zidane's first spell in charge of the club, in a 2-0 victory over RCD Espanyol in August 2017.
