The former Cameroon captain was at the Ballon d'Or gala in Zurich, Switzerland, on Monday to hand over the awards to the players who made it into the 2015 World XI.

Afterwards, Eto'o took to Instagram to congratulate Messi, and was full of praise for his former teammate, who had lifted his fifth Golden Ball.

"Congratulations again to you my brother Leo Messi, on winning this Ballon d'Or 2015. I am not surprised by this outcome, you truly deserve it. Keep up the good work and continue to shine through your talent and humility. #WorldClass," he wrote in the caption of his post.

The Antalyaspor striker, who has also been linked with a move to China this week, also congratulated the 11 stars who were voted into the FIFA Team of the Year.

"Congratulations as well to the 2015 FIFA FIFPro World XI: Manuel Neuer, Marcelo, Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos, Dani Alves, Andres Iniesta, Luka Modric, Paul Pogba, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It was such a pleasure seeing you all and presenting you with these awards. You guys are the best. #DreamTeam."
