Three-time Ballon d'Or winner Johan Cruyff has had his say on this year's Ballon d'Or nominations and also shared what he thinks the difference between FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo is.
Ferdinand Explains Difference Between CR7 Messi
The Dutch legend believes Ronaldo's contributions to his team is limited compared to what Messi provides for the players around him.
"Messi is a team player and the splendour of his play makes sense within the collective football of the team," Cruyff told France Football.
"However, the freedom of Ronaldo is in a reduced environment. His position on the pitch is that of a player that thinks that his way of helping the team is scoring goals.
"There's a difference. Messi scores a lot as well, taking advantage of his qualities, but without losing sight of his teammates."
How Ronaldo Saved His Friend's Football Career
The winner of the prestigious award will be announced at the Ballon d'Or gala on 11 January 2016.
