Following votes from national team coaches, captains, one selected journalist per country and fans online – each "category" counting for 25% of the votes – FIFA cut the original 10-man shortlist down to three.

Last year's winner Luis Enrique did not make the final three, while Wales boss Chris Coleman and France coach Didier Deschamps were also dropped. In addition, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp and Tottenham Hotspur's Mauricio Pochettino were also cut.

Zinedine Zidane, Claudio Ranieri and Fernando Santos have been confirmed as the final three candidates for the Best FIFA Men's Coach of the Year award, which was previously known as the FIFA World Coach of the Year award.

This means Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone were also cut from the original shortlist, which, somewhat surprisingly, only featured coaches plying their trade in Europe, overlooking the likes of Pitso Mosimane and company.

FIFA also announced the final three nominees for the FIFA Best Women's Coach of the Year, and they are Jill Ellis (USA), Silvia Neid (Germany), and Pia Sundhage (Sweden), while former Banyana Banyana coach Vera Pauw did not make the cut.

The winners of both awards will be announced on 9 January, during the FIFA awards gala in Zurich.
