Many were left stunned after players such as Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric made this year's FIFA FIFPro World XI despite a horrible campaign in 2018/19.
Los Blancos went through three managers last season, were knocked out by a young Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League and were nowhere near FC Barcelona in the LaLiga title race.
They only picked up the FIFA Club World Cup in a season to forget, yet four Real stars were chosen into the World XI by their peers. It shows that the votes of 23 000 professional players are based on popularity more than actual performances on the pitch.

Marcelo, for example, even dropped from Real's line-up after reportedly being seven kilogramm overweight. Yet, he made the 2019 World XI.
But let us look at players, who probably also thought they deserved a place in the line-up. In goal, not many can argue about Alisson Becker's performances, even though Marc-Andre ter Stegen also had superb campaign.
At the back, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson must feel hard done by after their standout full-back displays throughout the previous campaign. In addition, one of Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte and Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly probably should have been selected over Ramos.
In midfield, N'Golo Kante, as well as Manchester City duo Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez, who both won the domestic treble and Mahrez even the Africa Cup of Nations, arguably should have had a shout.
