With FIFA and France Football having ended their six-year collaboration of the FIFA Ballon d'Or, the French publication will announce their winner on Monday.
There are 30 names on France Football's shortlist for the European Footballer of the Year – players from all nationalities playing in Europe can be nominated – and the final ranking, as voted for by journalists, will be announced from 18:30 SA time.
Many consider Ronaldo to be the favourite to lift the prestigious trophy, after guiding Real Madrid to the UEFA Champions League title and Portugal to their first ever UEFA European Championship triumph.
World-record signing Paul Pogba, for example, has given his support to "Cristiano Ronaldo because he won the Euro and the Champions League".
African legend Didier Drogba echoed this sentiment, saying: "Cristiano is a true leader and he deserves the Ballon d'Or after what he achieved with Real Madrid and Portugal."
Others who support Ronaldo's case include Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo de Lima, Sergio Ramos and Deco.

The Portuguese superstar could win his second Ballon d'Or title, having lifted the award in 2008, after also winning two FIFA Ballon d'Or titles.
