The 10 Richest African Footballers, Past Or Present

The 10 Richest African Footballers, Past Or Present

10. Christopher Samba – €16 million

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are known to be two of the richest footballers in history, but who are the 10 wealthiest African players of all time? The top 10 does not include Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane!

Click through the gallery above to see the 10 richest African players in the world, according to Owogram.

As per Owogram, no current African player starring in the Premier League features among the 10 wealthiest African footballers of all time.

Interestingly, however, every player but one has previously appeared in England's top division. Seydou Keita, who is fifth on the list, made a success of himself in France, Spain, China, Italy and Qatar.

That was only after he left his home country of Mali, where he played for CKS Bamako, to join Marseille in 1997.

Former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has reportedly acquired a net worth of €19 million (R321 million) in his professional career, with the forward once the highest-paid African footballer in the world.

Above him is his ex-international colleague Michael Essien, whose net worth is believed to be €10 million (R169 million) more than Gyan's.

Further up the list are legendary figures such as Ivory Coast's Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba who, together, are said to be worth well more than €100 million (R1.6 billion).

It is former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o, though, who holds first place in the ranking – you can see his reported net worth in the gallery above!
