Following yet another stellar performance at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), reports have suggested that the Super Falcons are yet to be paid the bonuses owed to them.
The 11-time WAFCON champions were once again on the precipice of making another competition final, but were thwarted by the hosts of this year's competition, Morocco, at the semi-final stage.
Nigeria played most of the game with a numerical disadvantage as two of their players were sent off by the 71st minute. Despite this, they forced the game to a penalty shootout, where there lost 5-4 to the Atlas Lionesses.
The west African nation was thus unable to defend their continental crown in 2022, and it seems their situation has gone from bad to worse.
According to Nigerian football journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has failed to pay the Super Falcons their bonuses for their exploits in north Africa.
The BBC reporter has claimed that an NFF executive member has told him that: "The players have not received one penny of the bonuses due to them at this tournament. The Federal Ministry of Youth Sports Development in Nigeria has not given us a dime for them.
"The minister, Sunday Dare, has not said a word to us. The girls have not complained and have given everything here.
"No one should take these girls for granted, even though they have not complained.
"No one should be surprised when there is a strong reaction.
"These girls know their rights they won't take this for too long.
"The right thing should be done, before they react."
The record WAFCON champions have now reportedly boycotted training ahead of their third-place playoff against Zambia in protest of their unpaid bonuses.
