Official: Eto'o Files FIFA Complaint Amid Match-Fixing Scandal

Samuel Eto'o has filed an official complaint to FIFA amid CAF's investigation into his alleged involvement in match-fixing.

According to The Guardian, the president of Cameroonian football is dismayed after CAF said it would look into allegations that he has been involved in the fixing of matches in his country.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward's lawyers have lodged a complaint with FIFA, in which they claim CAF secretary-general Veron Mosengo-Omba opened the investigation to create "negative publicity".

CAF's investigation was opened in August last year after voice notes, in which Eto'o was alleged to have been speaking about match-fixing, did the rounds.

At the time, it was reported that the person the iconic African striker was talking to in the clip was the president of a Cameroonian football club.

His lawyers have insisted, however, that the recording does not provide evidence of match-fixing and questioned its credibility, alleging in their complaint to FIFA that the secretary-general is leading a media campaign against Eto'o.

Speaking on the issue, his lawyer, Antoine Vey, says his client has never taken part in a conversation about fixing games.

"We have been able to identify some of the individuals who contributed to this situation, in particular the secretary-general," he told The Guardian.

"It's him we are mentioning in our complaint. We have questions about who recorded that tape and for what purpose.

"Mr Eto'o doesn't recognise taking part in a conversation in which he obviously talks about corruption. If you listen to the tape, he is trying to reassure a club president about some issues he is having; he says it will be dealt with but he doesn't say it was by illegal means or anything like that.

"We don't really see what the point of the tape is. It doesn't have much to do with procedure and is just a part of a campaign to undermine Eto'o's reputation."
