CAF has issued a statement regarding the attack on a match official in a Congo Cup match between OC Renaissance and Tanganyika.
The statement reads: "The Confédération Africaine de Football ("CAF") has strongly condemned the attack on a match official during the domestic match between OC Renaissance and Tanganyika.

"CAF has called on Fédération Congolaise de Football-Association (FECOFA) to take strong action in accordance of its rules against the perpetrators to deter future similar incidents and to protect referees at football matches.
"CAF will follow this matter closely."

It is believed that the referee who was officiating a tense Coupe du Congo match between OC Renaissance and FC Tanganyika is now in a critical condition in a Kinshasa hospital.
After Tanganyika won 3-0 in their quarter-final penalty shootout following their initial 1-1 draw, the referee was mauled by opposition fans, overwhelming the security measures in place, attacking the referee with kicks, blows, and plastic chairs.
