On Sunday afternoon, the Blood and Gold registered an emphatic victory over Olympique Béja as the club secured the 34th league title in their history.
While the Bafana Bafana winger started the match on the bench for Maher Kanzari’s side, the attacker replaced Algerian talisman Youcef Belaili in the 61st minute, and 15 minutes later found the back of the net to complete the scoring for the record Ligue Professionnelle 1 champions.
The goal was his sixth in all competitions this season, taking him to 10 goal contributions since signing for the North African giants. Mokwana joined Esperance at the beginning of the season from Sekhukhune United and, following the club’s recent triumph, he becomes the first South African to win the competition.
It is the 25-year-old’s second title since joining the side, after he also helped them win the Tunisian Super Cup earlier in the season, scoring in the final.
